Basic story: It's Martin Luther King Jr for goodness sake. The guy from the holiday which was a couple of days ago. Who doesn't know the story? Well, actually quite a few people when you start to layer the whole thing together - which this graphic novel does brilliantly. There's living in the shadow of his father (MLK sr.), the woman/women, the racism, the movement/movements (not just the SCLC but also SNCC, the Black Stone Rangers), the actions (not just the March on Washington but the anti-war as well as poverty campaigns) and the tensions (within the movement[s], between the movements, between whites and blacks, between blacks and blacks, between the lines, across the lines).
The artistry: black and white with occasional splashes of color.
